Built in 1892 and steeped in a wealth of heritage, Treloyhan Manor sits grandly on the cliffs overlooking the blue flag beaches of St Ives in Cornwall.
Weaving itself around St Ives is the famous South West Coastal Path, a 630 mile-long, freely accessible walking and hiking trail offering panoramic views of sea and rolling countryside.
Starting in Minehead in Somerset it traverses the rugged stretch of Exmoor coastline, running through to North Devon and on into Cornwall. It is the longest established National Trail in the country and rangers work closely with farmers to preserve the accessibility, durability and quality of the route.
Ramblers should anticipate spectacular sea scenes, dramatic rock formations, a plethora of native species wildlife, expansive bays and picture post-card worthy sunsets.
Now The Salt Path, a powerful new film released in May 2025, brings to life the remarkable true story of Raynor Winn and her husband, Moth.
Based on Winn’s bestselling memoir of the same name, the film follows the couple’s extraordinary journey along the South West Coast Path after they lose their home and Moth is diagnosed with a terminal illness.
Starring Gillian Anderson (The X-Files, The Fall) and Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter, The White Lotus), the film poignantly captures the couple’s resilience as they navigate grief, illness, and uncertainty - living in a tent and surviving day to day - while finding healing and strength in nature and taking value from the natural world.
In the book Winn conveys the wild environment of the coastal path. Not just the range of wildlife, the plants and the sea, but what it's like to live amongst it all whilst breathing in the salty sea air.
Where to stay and rest on the Salt Path
Historic Treloyhan Manor, nestled on the clifftop of St Ives overlooking the bay, leads directly on to the Salt Path, and the section is widely considered as some of the best and most beautiful sections of the coastal path.
St Ives is ideally situated as the final stop of Stage 3 from Padstow, and the start of Stage 4 to Penzance on the route.
Ramblers relaxing at Treylohan Manor will be stunned by the magnificence of the manor and the picturesque sea views as they pass the 19th Century manor house, originally built for Edward Hain and his family, before housing evacuees from Sussex during World War Two.
With a concierge on hand, premier appliances and luxury king-size beds, it will serve as the perfect respite along the coastal trek.
